When is Surf Season in Taghazout Bay?
Peak Season: October to April
This is when long-period swells from the North Atlantic arrive, producing long, consistent waves. Surf is most reliable during these months, with Morocco’s famous right-hand point breaks — such as Anchor Point, Killer Point, and Boilers — showing their best form. Expect bigger and more powerful surf at all the surf spots.
Off-Season: May to September
May can still deliver fun waves, especially at beach breaks, though the larger winter swells are usually gone.
Summer brings less consistent surf due to calm Atlantic conditions. Waves are generally smaller but still fun, especially for beginners and longboarders.
The calmer ocean and warm summer weather make this period ideal for surf-skate training, yoga, and cultural excursions.
September often marks the unofficial start of the surf season. The first swells can arrive, crowds are smaller, and conditions are excellent for both intermediate and advanced surfers.

Water & Weather Conditions
Winter (Oct–Apr): Water temperatures average 15–17°C, so a 3/2mm or 4/3mm wetsuit is recommended. Air temperatures remain comfortable, usually 20–25°C during the day.
Summer (May–Sep): Water warms to 20–22°C, with lighter swells. A spring suit or shorty is often enough. Air temperatures rise to 25–30°C, perfect for beach days and evening rooftop dinners.

Why September Matters
September is the shoulder season in Taghazout Bay — the calm before the surf season officially begins. The summer buzz has faded, domestic holidaymakers and international travelers have returned home, and Tamraght feels quieter again. Locals settle back into their own rhythm, and the beaches regain a more relaxed pace.
For surfers, this timing is ideal: the first consistent swells of the year begin to arrive, the lineups are less crowded than in the peak winter months, and the water and air are still warm from summer.
Another advantage of surfing in September is the flexibility of conditions — the waves tend to be more forgiving than the heavy winter swells, making it a great month for intermediates to step up while advanced surfers still find plenty of challenge at the points.
In short: September offers space, warmth, and waves — the perfect mix to ease into the season.
